Echo works with the college of Engineering CommLab to help other graduate student improve at presenting their own research and also volunteers with various K-12 STEM programs through the year. Additionally she is working to improve her skills as an educator by taking post-secondary education courses.
CommLab Fellow
As a member of the CommLab Echo holds a weekly poster/figure office hours for other graduate students to stop by and get feedback on how they are visually communicating their research. Additionally, like all CommLab fellows, students can schedule time to meet with Echo to review anything, from resumes and graduate school applications to presentations for upcoming conferences. As a fellow Echo has also participated in partnerships with the other groups on campus such as PEAR (Platforms for Exchange and Allocation of Resources) and the NU Impact Symposium to help prepare students for specific presentations.
Undergraduate Mentorship
Echo has helped oversee undergraduate students wanted to gain experience in an academic research environment. So far all the undergraduate students she has mentored have gotten academic credit for the experience. Students ended the semester by writing a document summarizing their motivation, methodology, and findings. The completed reports so far are:
"Reduction of Iron Oxides in the Iron Powder Fuel Cycle" - JR, Spring 2024
"Mass Loss Investigation" -WM, Fall 2023
Guest Lectures
As a graduate student Echo has given mini guest lectures, typically 30-45 minutes, for both undergraduate and graduate classes.
"Utilizing additive manufacturing techniques to align thermally anisotropic particles" - ME 5640, Spring 2025
"3D printing mini-lecture!" - ME 2340, Fall 2023
K-12 Outreach
For the past few years Echo has participated in Northeastern University's "Building Bridges" program, where she teaches high school students about a topic related to research during a one-hour activity/session. Previous presentations include:
“Engineering with Fire” – Fall 2023, Fall 2024
“Cool Materials” - Spring 2023
